500 Linkedin Connections

picture-7.pngI have been using Linkedin for quite a while now. Today marks the day where I actually have 500 connections. I wonder whether I would be able to go through all of them and remember who each and everyone is. I would probably get a 95% hit rate. I don’t think I am actually making complete use of my network on Linkedin network, but one of my New Year’s resolutions is to get a bit better with my networking.

  2. I’ve taken the approach of only adding people I have truly met in person. I tend not to just add random people. I did it a couple times when I first started on LinkedIn, and regretted it ever since.

    And Joel, I completely agree with you. I have done exactly that. I hate it when I get requests from recruiters or CISSPs that want to expand their network. What for? I want to keep a list of known people, not a random list of strange people.

    I’ve done the same thing, tried only to add people I have met in person or done some remote thing together – none of the “I’m trying to expand my network”. Same with recruiters. Also, you can delete contacts now BTW.

    One good thing to start the New Year with on LinkedIn is recommendations. Get some of the cool dudes to make recommendations for you and reciprocate for them. Good for your network size is being multi-homed. Start with Max, Nico, FX and others on Zog…
